The Sagas are epic works of Scandinavian and Germanic literature, written in the Old Norse language. They are prose narratives concerned with the exploits of gods and mythological figures, heroes or even commoners.

The sagas concern a number of different topics but can be divided into several broad categories: kings' sagas (Konungasögur), sagas and short tales of Icelanders (Íslendinga sögur and þættir), contemporary sagas (Samtíðarsögur or Samtímasögur), legendary sagas (Fornaldarsögur), and chivalric sagas (Riddarasögur).
